Mug Shot Lite™ creates a document, called a Rap Sheet, which lists vital information about your Macintosh® System. This information can aid the developer of the product you are having trouble with narrow down the possible cause of the problem.
Since the Rap Sheet is a text file, it can be edited with any text editor or word processor. To create the Rap Sheet, click the Save button below and the standard save dialog will appear allowing you to name it. The default document name suggested is your “Chooser Name” (from the Chooser desk accessory) with the current date appended to it. Clicking Save from the save dialog will create the document within a few seconds. Next, use a word processor to add your name, address, product name, and a problem description where indicated in the document. Finally, print the form and send it off to the company - either through the Postal Service, FAX, or electronic mail!
If you prefer to have your system information copied to the clipboard, click the Copy to Clipboard button. This is useful for pasting the information into a desk accessory text editor or directly into your electronic mail software.
The information provided by Mug Shot Lite™ includes the Macintosh model; System, Finder, and MultiFinder® versions; Processor, FPU and MMU types; ROM version and revision level; QuickDraw® version; keyboard type; AppleTalk® version; total RAM memory; and a list of Desk Accessories, system extensions (INITs), control panel devices, Chooser documents and function keys(1).
Notes:
1) If available, these lists include version numbers.
While interrogating your system, if Mug Shot Lite™ finds a value that it is unaware of, it will be listed as “Unknown [x]” - where x is the out of range value. This may happen when Mug Shot Lite™ is used on new Macintosh models. Contact us for update information and include the Rap Sheet document if possible.
Mug Shot came about because of reported problems with some of our products. When a problem occurred, we always had to nag the user for basically all the information listed above. Most of the time the information was inadequate to determine the problem. Now, using Mug Shot Lite‚Ñ¢, it is all automated!
Coming soon, Mug Shot Deluxe™, the ultimate Macintosh information system. Providing a complete Macintosh interface and scads* more information compared to Mug Shot Lite™. Send us a postcard and we’ll inform you upon its release.
* scad (skad) n. a species of mackerel; pl. (Slang) a great quantity.
Printing tips:
For best results, print the Rap Sheet document using a mono-spaced font such as Monaco 9 point or Courier 10 point. If possible, please insert page breaks so the lists of information do not cross a page boundary.
